Around BHOOTHATHANKETTU

There is a safe natural walk trail through the thick ever green riparian forest from the vicinity of the Dam site leads to the picturesque old BHOOTHATHANKETTU. This locale is believed to be the site where the bhootas made futile efforts to build a dam. Remnants of huge rocks, believed to be used for the dam construction can be seen scattered across the river. The sight of the river flowing amidst the rocks is a magnificent scene. A huge tree with a large enough hollow space within, to shelter a person is a majestic visual during the short trek. A cave believed to be used by Bhootas , amidst the forest ,where one can hardly stand , a scary yet adventure invoking exploration entertainment. The trek takes one hour and the pathway is without much undulations, even old people can have a pleasure trek.
BHOOTHATHANKETTU Park is a beautifully landscaped garden with kids play area facing BHOOTHATHANKETTU dam. It is full of lush green lawns with well laid out flowerbeds and toys like merry-go-rounds, swing sets, see-saws, sliders, overhead ladder etc for kids to play and enjoy. There are stone laid path ways from where we can watch the out flow from the dam and marvelous sculptures of Bhoothas who are believed to have built the old BHOOTHATHANKETTU dam. The garden also has a refreshment centre where a group of up to 100 people can rest and have food they carry with them. The garden also has a pond with different types of fishes in it. It also has got an elevated resting place and a pool for tourists.

Pedal boating in a beautifully located lake in the heart of BHOOTHATHANKETTU is a very enjoyable experience and inevitable part of every visit.         Enjoy pedal boating and kayaking at the serene lake with pristine water around you and an enchanting view to admire will be an experience worth cherishing forever. It offers boats of various capacities on rent which makes the experience of boating a lot more pleasurable. There are two seater and four seater pedal boats, single row boats and kayaks available.

Tree houses with different facilities are available which offer a panoramic view of the forest and catchment area of the dam. Five tree houses of various types & capacities are situated at five different locations which offers scenic view of the entire area of BHOOTHATHANKETTU.

The watch tower offers an unforgettable aerial view of the dam, the catchment area, THATTEKKAD bird sanctuary, MALAYATTOOR forests and major part of Ernakulam district.

Tourists will be provided with fishing rods on which they can hook. Fishes they catch are sold at a rate of 300/kg, which can be prepared in the kitchen of DTPC restaurant according to their taste.
This is DTPCs prestigious nicely located restaurant with wide windows which open to the spectacular lake view. It serves both Indian, Continental and Chinese dishes. A "tattukada" is also attached to the restaurant which serves special periyar fish dishes like nadan puliyila meen curry, paral fry, nadan chicken curry, pidi and tapioca.
